Description
Beautiful antique from the Victorian Era, silverplated domed butter dish in excellent condition. We could not find any maker's marks but we believe this to be an American butter dish.
The only hallmark is the number "0105" imbedded on the base.
Around the bottom part of the dish, the Greek key design is creating a lovely border, and on the top domed lid there is a very nice etched design, same on both sides with oval intaglio for monogram. There is no monogram on the dish however.
The design is reminiscent of the Aesthetic movement.
The small hooks holding a chain on each side are in place, together with a small silver rod attached to the end so that it can fit into the two ends where there are two holes to hold the lid in place.
The feet are also very beautiful with a flower and leaf repousse design.
The butter dish measures 8 1/2" long from the tip of one round finial to the other.
The actual oval shaped dish bottom part measures 6 1/2" long X 5 1/4" wide.
The height of the entire piece when domed lid is on is 5 1/4"
The antique butter dish is in very good condition with very mild signs of wear mostly on the inside. The outside looks perfect!
The original butter knife is not included.
