    S A BLACK DAY FOR THE COMPETITION.
    Now that Isuzu has come out with the white on white RS Turbo Impulse, a lot of cars are looking slightly pale in comparison.
    They start to fade when we start the engine. A 2.0 liter overhead cam fuel injected engineering triumph, powered by an intercooled turbocharger equally appropriate for Indy or the Interstate.
    For those brave enough to drive the latter, the RS Turbo puts out 140 exhilarating horsepower. And goes from 0-60 in 8.5 seconds. Faster than the Celica GT-S and Porsche 944 among others.*
    Then, to turn our competitors’ faces even redder, we introduced a limited slip differential with
    heavy duty sway bars and oversized high performance tires to improve handling and take the suspense out of cornering. The result: in rigorous slalom testing, the Turbo Impulse out-performed the Mercedes Benz 560SEC and the BMW 635CSi.
    And as for the interior, Motor Trend described it as having “just about every conceivable convenience and comfort known to the automotive world.” Which means the only people uncomfortable with it are those competing against it.
    All of which helps to explain most carmakers’ reaction to white on white. Green with envy.
